Barbados Car Hire & Travel Information

When visiting Barbados one of the attractions is the range of excellent restaurants and other eateries on offer.  The food here is world class, although the downside is that you can expect to pay a little more than you would in other parts of the Caribbean.

You can pick up almost anything here in terms of cuisine, with restaurants serving dishes that have originated all over the world, but you can also partake in some of the local cuisine that you find in street markets.  The island has a number of British-style pubs where you can enjoy traditional English meals such as fish and chips alongside a pint or two of British bitter.

Beers are not the only alcoholic beverages that you can enjoy on the island, which is home to more than 100 different rum shops/bars.  Often these are very simple outlets but you are guaranteed a friendly welcome.  Just be aware that Barbados has a smoking ban in place for public areas.

To ensure you get the best of everything that the island has to offer why not hire a car?  In Barbados there are so many different places to visit that you could miss out on some real gems if you don’t plan ahead.  Restaurants all over the island serve local specialities so some of the dishes that you could be trying include cutters – a large sandwich of flying fish that is usually served with a side dish of coucou, a dish of cornmeal with onion, peppers and spiced tomatoes.  Alternatively give the local dish of ‘conkies’ a try.  This is cornmeal that is mixed with pumpkin, coconut, raisins, spices and sweet potato and then steamed in a banana leaf.  Grilled pigtail, plaintains and breadfruit all feature heavily on local menus too and are worth trying.
